What if everyone could walk to work?
It’s easy to take the humble walk for granted. But walking has a profound effect on our health, our mental well-being, our relationships, the economy, the environment and our understanding of what really matters to us. It’s funny, we call people who walk “pedestrian” but the truth is that people who walk change the world in lots of profound and beneficial ways. What’s more, it’s easy to do and doesn’t cost a thing.
Research says that during the lockdown in June 2020, nearly half of the entire UK population was working from home. That’s millions of people not having to commute to and work in an office. As restrictions ease, this will become their new normal, and many of them will be looking for closer to home working alternatives.
TownSq creates local hubs where people can walk to work with all the benefits that includes, both for the individual and the local community. We’re also a B Corp, a global movement to use business as a force for good. By creating positive working environments closer to where people live, we hope to encourage more walking to work, as and when people find it more pleasurable and convenient.
Before lockdown, over 30 million people in the UK commuted to work every day. We see this as 30 million ways to change the way we get to work for the better. You can join our campaign at #BootTheCommute. And if you’d like to spread the word please share this campaign and sign up to our mailing list to keep updated on how the campaign is building.
